The app actually works in favor of the cooks who produce the meals. Because of the limited choice of ingredients allergy students can choose, it helps us spend less time and labor on producing these meals every day.
When talking about the UMass Safe App, my favorite part is how it streamlines communication all the way to the student. You can communicate directly with the dining staff, yet it maintains enough distance to avoid making the student feel uncomfortable. It’s so easy to print out the recipes and get them to the cooks. The streamlining of everything just makes it so much easier.
After spending my first week of classes last semester skipping meals, I found out that UMass Dining could work with me to prepare meals that I could eat. This semester, the app has made it even more convenient for me to ensure I am getting healthy, nutritious meals while also being able to focus on school.
As a 19-year-old with a raging appetite and kidney stones, it’s not easy finding safe meals in the dining hall. Because of the creation of this app, it’s easier for me to focus on school without worrying about what’s in my meals. Since I’m the one who builds them, I know exactly what’s in them, and they also provide us with a piece of paper that lists all the ingredients.
The UMass Dining app for allergies has made my life a lot easier. I don’t have to worry about what’s in my food or how I am going to get fed every day. I can just click a few buttons, be on my way to class, and not have to worry. It is convenient to choose when and where I eat, and it has really made classes and life here a lot easier.
Through UMass Safe, I’ve been able to learn about more balanced meal options based on having Celiac disease, food allergies, and food intolerances. It is also great that I am directly in contact with the dining staff, which makes my life feel so much safer.
