Webinar: Creating allergy-conscious dining environments

Webinar: Creating allergy-conscious dining environments

On July 30, Touchwork hosted a webinar aimed at addressing the complexities of managing food allergies within college campus dining environments. This session brought together experienced campus dietitians to share their expertise and experiences in creating safer and more inclusive dining options for students with food allergies.

Our speakers included:

  • Kelsey Patterson, RD, SLE Culinary Services, Michigan State University >> View presentation
  • Flora Mendoza, MS, RD, LDN, Assistant Director Dietitian of Dining Services, University of Illinois >> View presentation

Moderated by Jennifer Wood, Business Development Executive at Touchwork, the webinar shed light on the necessity for allergy-focused dining solutions in higher education. Kelsey and Flora highlighted the increasing prevalence of food allergies among students and the imperative need for dining services to adapt accordingly.

Throughout the session, the dietitians shared their insights on implementing effective allergy management strategies. They emphasized the importance of providing clear allergen information and accommodating dietary restrictions to ensure the safety and well-being of all campus diners. The discussion also covered the positive changes observed among students, faculty, and staff with allergies or dietary restrictions, underscoring how these efforts have led to a more inclusive and supportive dining environment.

A key focus of the webinar was the introduction of OrderIT, our food ordering app designed to filter out allergens and simplify meal selection for students with dietary restrictions. Kelsey and Flora detailed how OrderIT has been successfully integrated into their campus dining operations, resulting in significant improvements in efficiency and safety. They shared real-world examples of how this tool has helped prevent allergic reactions and enhance the overall dining experience for students.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended the webinar. Your participation and engagement made the session incredibly valuable. A special thank you goes out to Kelsey Patterson and Flora Mendoza for sharing their expertise and experiences, helping us all better understand the importance of creating allergy-conscious dining environments on college campuses. We look forward to continuing this important conversation and working together to ensure safer dining experiences for all students.
